External Faculty Nurse Scientist Appointments

The appointment of a growing cohort of nationally recognized faculty nurse scientists and senior nurse scientists to the Center provides opportunities to contribute to nursing research activities and possibilities to mentor or collaborate with MGH staff.

Each request is reviewed on an individual basis. Minimum qualifications for appointments include a master’s degree in nursing and a doctorate in nursing or related field, and faculty appointment at an accredited University. External Faculty Nurse Scientists are appointed to a term of two years with possibility for reappointment every two years. External Senior Faculty Nurse Scientists are appointed at the discretion of MGH Nursing Leadership for an unlimited term.

To be considered for a 2-year External Faculty Nurse Scientist appointment, faculty are expected to engage in a minimum of two (2) of the activities listed below during the 2-year appointment.

1. MGH Nursing Research Day Abstract Review
2. MGH Nursing Research Day Poster Judge
3. Yvonne Munn Research Award Reviewer  
4. Connell Scholar Research Reviewer     
5. Presentation at MGH Nursing Grand Rounds
6. Presentation at Doctoral Forum
7. Mentor MGH nursing staff on research or publication
8. Other Munn Center or Patient Care Services related activity

External Faculty Nurse Scientists and nursing faculty interested in conducting research at the MGH without an external faculty appointment are invited to submit a letter of request along with a Curriculum Vitae to the Yvonne L. All requests will be reviewed by MGH Nursing Leadership and candidates will be notified of decisions within 8-weeks.
