MGH Resources

HAVEN works closely with all of the following MGH resources. Some survivors of intimate partner abuse will prefer to work directly with the following resources rather than coming to HAVEN. Support is available from a variety of departments at MGH and HAVEN encourages people to seek the program that feels most comfortable for them.

The MGH Social Service Department

Our clinical social workers are licensed mental health professionals trained to help you cope with daily challenges to life's most difficult situations. We offer a unique combination of counseling and referral to community resources.
As social workers and members of the Mass General community, we are dedicated to ensuring an environment that is safe, accessible, inclusive and welcoming to everyone.


Social work services are private and confidential.


Social workers are available throughout Mass General, both inpatient and outpatient, to help you with issues such as:

  • Coping with illness, injury, treatment and recovery
  • Mental health and substance use concerns
  • Grief and bereavement
  • Relationships, parenting and family concerns
  • Abuse, neglect, violence and other safety issues
  • Job, school or other life stresses

Social workers are on-site 8:30 a.m. to 11:00 p.m., seven days a week, including holidays. Call 617-726-2643. There is a social worker on-call for emergencies after hours.

The Child Protection Team at MGH
The Child Protection Team is a multidisciplinary consultation service available to assist any MGH staff in assessing and managing cases involving possible child maltreatment. The Team is available 24 hours/day, 7 days/week.

MGH Police and Security
The Mission of the MGH Police, Security and Outside Services Department is to provide protective services to the MGH Community in a professional and supportive manner. MGH Police and Security officers are available 24 hours/day, 7 days/week to assist patients, visitors, employees and Professional staff. For more information see the website or call 617-726-2121

Partners Employee Assistance Program
The EAP is a free and confidential work and life resource. Partners EAP offers assistance through consultation, short-term counseling, referral, resources and educational seminars. Services are available to all employees and medical staff, and their household members. MGH Men Against Abuse and Domestic Violence Working Group

MGH Domestic Violence Working Group is a group of MGH employees working to raise awareness and engage the MGH community on issues surrounding domestic violence. In 2004, the MGH Domestic Violence Working Group started a group called MGH Men Against Abuse. The group has pledged “to never commit, condone or remain silent about men’s violence against women. We will respect, listen to and share power with the women in our lives.”  In conjunction with the MGH Domestic Violence Working Group, members meet ​monthly to share information and plan domestic violence awareness events. For more information about MGH Men Against Abuse, please visit our website.

MGH Spiritual Care Department
The Spiritual Care Department at MGH provides spiritual care to patients and families, to the staff and to the institution as a whole. Ministry is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to people of all faiths as well as to those with no religious affiliation.
